About the Company

Founded by Andrew Davidson, Owner and operator of The Gargoyle Theatre, The Gargoyle Players is a Winnipeg-based theatre collective that produces original, local-created theatrical works.

About the show

Ted and Julia, a middle-aged couple, meet for their fifth date. Here, secrets are revealed that will challenge them (and us) to consider questions of redemption, free will versus determinism, sexuality, the Canadian justice system, and more. By the date’s end, everything has changed, leaving the audience to consider: what comes next for this couple with their dark secrets? Is a sixth date even possible?

While it is easy to consider people either "good" or "evil," this disregards the complexity of the human condition; and when we reduce people to the single worst action of their life, we do so at our own peril.

Fifth Date is an original one-act play that premiered at the 2024 Winnipeg Fringe Festival at The Gargoyle Theatre.

It was written and directed by Andrew Davidson, performed by Scott Douglas and Karen Robb, and stage managed by Heather Smith.

Ted will be performed by Vince Rimmer for this festival’s performance.
